So how does
the tournament work ?
There are 6 team owners/sponsors and 6 captains that have been selected for the HAHOPL. The owners/sponsors and captains have been randomly allocated to each other. The relevant captains were given the list of players that have committed themselves to the tournament. Although the selection of players was random, the order of the grouped players was predetermined. The beauty of this, is that there is no way of determining which players would be in which side, however all captains had the opportunity of having the first choice in a selected group.
Each team comprises of 4 A-League players, 3 B-League players, 1 Overs player, 1 Lady and 2 Wild Cards. There are certain restrictions on the amount of players that can play from each division. There is also a minimum requirement (3 games) that every player has to play, for the team to qualify for playoffs. Ladies need to play 5 games, and all playoff games including finals.
In a great new innovation, there is also be Batting and Bowling Powerplays in the HAHOPL. All the rules were explained to the captains and owners on the night of the players draw.
